ACCESS

Audit of Care and Clinic Entry for Substance Use Services

Project Overview:

The ACCESS project examines how residential addiction treatment programs in the Western U.S. accommodate people who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injury (SCI), focusing on the availability of care, physical accessibility, and supportive services across facilities that provide high-level residential substance use treatment. The study includes outreach to programs to confirm admission criteria, accessibility features, and mobility-related supports, as well as an administrator survey capturing leaders’ perspectives on accessibility, barriers to care, and needed improvements. By compiling these data, the project aims to clarify how well current systems meet the needs of people with SCI who require residential treatment and to inform evidence-based policy and practice changes that advance equitable access to care.
