HOUSE:
The HOUSE Photovoice Study - Perspectives on Aging with Disabilities Post Prison Incarceration
Project Overview
The HOUSE Photovoice Study is a community-engaged research initiative examining the reentry experiences of aging individuals with disabilities following prison incarceration, with a focus on those enrolled in the HOUSE program at Remerg. Using a participatory Photovoice methodology, participants document and reflect on their lived experiences through photography and facilitated group dialogue, centering their perspectives on the structural, environmental, and interpersonal factors that shape reintegration. The study explores key barriers and facilitators to stability, including housing access, health care, stigma, and the ongoing impacts of community supervision, particularly for individuals convicted of sex offenses who face heightened structural constraints. By generating participant-driven insights and engaging community stakeholders, the project aims to inform future research, advocacy, and policy efforts to improve reentry outcomes and address inequities experienced by this population.
